How to Boil an Egg- Science, not an Art!

eggs nestfresh

You would say boiling an egg is easy; anybody can do that and you are absolutely right about it. However my husband strongly believes somethings can be perfected by science and a timer! He does that with few things like brewing perfect French press coffee, making a classic cup of tea and boiling eggs.

He is also the master chef of eggs in our kitchen, be it boiled, scrambled, sunny side up-over easy, Mexican Huevos Rancheros or the Hyderabadi Anday ka Khagina. But when my husband was out of town,  I adapted  his  simple science of boiling eggs myself and was amazed that by following  the simple steps and a timer, I did make the perfect medium boiled eggs our family loves as a side to our weekend breakfast.

Recently when I was presented some coupons to try NestFresh Eggs, I was egg-cited to try them out since I have been considering moving on to organic eggs and chickens. I have been shopping for organic milk since the time my kids were babies to skip the assimilation of hormones from milk in their diets. But lately having watched some videos going around in the news and social media of the inhumanely caged chickens pumped with hormones and fed a carnivorous diet, I have been mulling with the idea to try something more pure and organic. NestFresh eggs are certified cage free, natural, organic, eggs with no hormones, no antibiotics and chemicals.  These eggs are farm fresh from cage free humanely grown chickens on a vegetarian non GMO diet!   They too seemed to have believed in a philosophy of perfecting the conventional eggs to produce the most wholesome and natural organic eggs from cage free humanely grown chickens for families across America!

I think the purest way to eat and understand the quality of an egg would be by eating it soft or medium boiled instead of trying it out in a recipe.   Hence I decided to make some medium boiled eggs for our breakfast as a side to my Vermicelli Sevian Upma in the morning.

I plan to make a few more recipes with the NestFresh eggs to enjoy its pure and fresh quality. Keep yourself posted with more egg recipes soon!

How to Boil an Egg in few steps:

  1. Place eggs in a single layer in a pot filled with cold water. The water should cover the eggs by at least an inch.
  2. Add a pinch of salt.
  3. Set on stove top and boil the eggs.
  4. Set the timer for 6 minutes for soft boiled eggs, 8 min for medium boiled eggs, and 10 minutes for hard boiled eggs according to your preference.  We prefer medium boiled eggs so we set about 4-5 eggs in a pot with water with the timer set for 8 minutes.
  5. Bring the water to a boil, and let cook.
  6. When timer goes off, turn off the stove and remove the pot from the burner.
  7. Drain the water from the pot; add ice cubes or cold water immediately to stop the cooking process.
  8. Crack and peel the shells of eggs and serve with salt and fresh crushed black pepper.
