When you are in the mood for a quick snack but would like to keep it healthy, here’s a delicious and healthy snack made with Chickpeas. This savory snack besides pleasing the flavor buds, its good dietary fiber, low-carb, and cholesterol -free, gluten-free and a vegan snack!

Yield: 4-6

Cooking time: 15 mins

Ingredients:

Chickpeas-2 cups

Kosher Sea salt -1 tsp or to taste

Red chili powder- 1 tblsp

Cumin powder- 1 tsp

Olive oil- 1 tblsp

Chaat masala – pinch (optional )

Method:

For chickpeas you can go two ways. One way is soak the chickpeas, boil it and use this cooked chickpeas. Since I prefer to do things from scratch, I sometimes soak and boil chickpeas in bulk, when I am cooking  for a Chole Masala Curry I set aside some for hummus or this snack.  The easier way of course is open a can of chickpeas, drain the water, and place them on a paper towel to soak out any more water.

In a bowl, add the chickpeas, and the spices, salt and olive oil. Coat all the chickpeas with the spicy oil by mixing them well.

In an air fryer, cook to crunchy for 10-12 mins. I have a Gourmia airfryer and it takes me 10 to 15 mins each batch according to how crunchy I want or how diligent I was in draining out all the water from the chickpeas. This same recipe can be made in a conventional oven by spreading out the chickpeas on a pan and cooking for 20 mins or more till crunchy at 400 degrees.

Its great snack for picnics, a trail walk, a stroll by the lake, or snacking while watching a movie. This snack even has inspired a Bollywood song singing about the snack in context of patriotic fervor: Chana Chor garam babu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdmT0kzZGpc
