Golden Turmeric Milk (Haldi Doodh) is our go-to drink and remedy for colds, coughs, and sore throats, and for building overall immunity. I drank it throughout my childhood in India whenever my mom sensed I was coming down with something. I also served it to my children from a young age, and they grew to love it, affectionately calling it “healthy dudu” (where “dudu” or “doodh” means milk in Urdu and Hindi)! With the growing awareness of turmeric as a superfood, traditional turmeric milk has now become popular as a Golden Latte.

Ingredients:
Water- 1/3 cup
Milk – 1 cup (dairy milk, almond/any nut milk/ oat milk)
Turmeric root or powder – ½ tsp
Black pepper – dash
Cinnamon (optional)- dash
Honey – to taste (optional)
Method:
To make a simple version of Golden Turmeric Milk, pour some water into the base of a saucepan. Set the stove to medium heat and add a cup of your chosen milk. Stir in ½ to ¾ teaspoon of turmeric and a dash or small pinch of black pepper, and cinnamon( optional) then bring the mixture to a boil.
Pour the milk into a cup, add a spoonful of honey if you prefer a sweeter drink, and give it a quick whisk with a frother. Enjoy your warm and comforting golden turmeric milk!
*Adding a pinch of black pepper (piperine) to the turmeric milk enhances the turmeric (curcumin) bioavailability and absorption in the body.
