JINYA Ramen- Review

When Ramen became a food trend couple of years ago, there were many Ramen places which popped up in Austin. But I have eaten at JINYA Ramen couple of times already with family and friends because of the many options and ramen variations they provide. They have broadened their audience to those who don’t eat pork by offering chicken broth and offer the uncommon option in ramen restaurants, the vegetarian and vegan ramen with tofu! Of course their location being in Domain’s happening Rock Rose district attracts more traffic too.

Originally California-based restaurant with branches across America, JINYA is modern and trendy restaurant with Japanese cuisine. The ambience at JINYA is young and happening with an industrial space, bar seating, booths and a communal table. The dinner time in weekends have quite a wait but lunch time is not busy.

The broth is very rich and flavorful with the balance of dashi (Japanese stock) bonito (fish flakes) and Kombu (dried kelp) and other ingredients. The handcrafted fresh noodles are perfectly paired with the broth. They also offer additional toppings like seaweed etc to be individually paired with each broth for umami goodness. The fresh crushed garlic topping is complimentary and accentuates the flavors.

The restaurant caters to our needs with food restrictions of pork and tries to work the dish to satisfy our requirements so that we can enjoy the flavors of Japanese cuisine without reservations.

In the multiple times we were here we tried six to seven different types of ramen and enjoyed all flavors. The big bowls full of lip-smacking broth and slurping the fresh noodles of these flavors is a perfect meal on a cold day or any day.

And if its not a cold day, don’t forget to finish off with the Japanese moshi ice cream in flavors of green tea, mango, chocolate and strawberry.

Slurp, slurp…
