In India mithai or Indian sweet desserts are significant part of festivity, happy moments, celebrations, getting together or just having a good dessert after a great meal. They are so many types and flavors of Indian sweets, mithai, meetha and desserts to choose from, that if you have a sweet tooth, you feel like a little kid in a Willi Wonka chocolate factory 😉
Indian desserts are called meetha or mithai. While both are rich is calories, sugar and fat; Mithai are sweet finger food made mostly from milk products like khova, ghee, dry fruits , flour and sugar or jaggery ; as against meetha which are desserts elaborately made with sugar, ghee ( clarified butter ), khova( concentrated milk solid), milk or fruits or vegetables or different kinds of flours, grains or lentils and dry fruits.
Each mithai is different and unique and varies by the different regions of India. The South , North, East and West have their own speciality sweets. But Sweet shops across India try to cater to every sweet tooth’s desires and sells almost all types of sweets. Indian Sweet shops are very popular here, and there is one in almost every neighborhood. Indian sweet shops thrive during festival season as its traditionally popular to visit others with gift box of sweets similar to western culture where its popular to give a box of chocolates.
